St John’s Open Future

The Improving Community Access Project (i-CAP) aims to improve the accessibility, openness, visibility and welcome of St John’s Church for both its congregation and its community.

St John’s is dedicated to being a Parish Church – a church for all our community.

We are exploring ways to become more inclusive, welcoming and progressive in our outlook as we seek to serve God and our neighbours.

One of the key areas for us is simply how we welcome people into church. Over a number of years a desire has grown to enable wheelchair and pram access through the main front door – a statement about our intention to become a sacred community space for all people.

The Improving Community Access Project (i-CAP) aims to improve the accessibility, openness, visibility and welcoming of St John’s Church for both its congregation and its community.

We are now actively seeking funding for this exciting and hopeful project – and invite our community to help us.

In brief, this project is comprised of two parts;

1. A Wheelchair Accessible Ramp from the main door lobby through to the south ambulatory aisle, (via the area where the present light switches are housed).

2. A Glass Porch Lobby, with automatic sliding doors, to the main entrance. This enables two things, a good turning circle for wheelchairs, plus a visibly open view of the church, enhancing a sense of welcome and hospitality.
