A progressive and inclusive benefice in the south of Newbury
Weekly Worship in the Benefice
Services are subject to all kinds of changes at the moment (i.e. sometimes we are open for Sunday Services, and other times closed). A weekly email is sent out with up to date details. You can resister to receive this email with the church office.
We are finding many people are – understandably – very stressed at this time, and many are thinking about spirituality, contemplation and life’s biggest challenges. If you are not familiar with, or used to church, then please know that you would be very welcome to join us for any of the services or discussions..
For now, (January 2021), this is a summary of how you can join us in worship, reflection and contemplation.
Benefice pre-recorded service on YouTube from 10am every Sunday. Optional Community ‘Coffee and Chat’ on Zoom following the service (details from the church office).
Wednesday Worship
A mid-week contemplative service on Zoom. Usually lasting 30 minutes. Simply turn up and dwell. (Zoom details from the office).
Morning prayer Currently taking place via Zoom, Morning Prayer takes place on Wednesday and Thursday at 8.50pm. Details area available from the office.
Seasonal Reflections At certain parts of the year we host discussions on many topics. Details will link from here.
Open Church for Personal Prayer St George’s Church is open for individual prayer and contemplation on Tuesday – Thursday each week from 10am – 2pm, and on Sunday from 9am – 3pm (with full social-distance compliance). At present, St John’s Church is not open for personal prayer – but this may change.
Further details about life in the Benefice of St George and St John can be found on our Social Media (oh yes – a church with Social Media, very scary!)
Dear friends, we are all facing great challenges, and alongside many other parts of our usual social life, the church has had to respond, and we have had to restrict our social gatherings and limit our services.
What this means is a different kind of church, because we are church in many more ways than meeting on Sunday services… St George’s and St John’s are both working to find ways to nurture and support our communities…
