Beauty, mystery and wonder.
Walking through the door is (probably) the biggest hurdle!
Our services are for everyone, and we hope you will value the opportunity for reflection and wonder. How much you want to participate is entirely up to you, but whatever your involvement we do hope you feel at home.
We think of liturgy as a multi-sensory drama in which everyone is invited to participate. A number of traditions are represented at St John’s; you may see people bowing, others making the sign of the cross, and others genuflecting (bending the knee). Feel free to do what is comfortable for you.
Incense is used in our main services and special occasions. It symbolises both the presence and grace of the Holy Spirit, and the rising prayers of worshippers. Incense hints at the uncontainable mystery of God and the presence of Christ. The aroma of incense reminds us that all our physical senses are related to God in worship.
Children are very welcome at our services. We have a craft table with helpers at the back of the church, we run a monthly Family Service, 1st Sunday, and we hope to renew children’s activites in the parish room as demand rises.
And even if your child makes some noise, we dont mind; it’s a joyful sound, and part of our communal worship!
