Job vacancy – Benefice Office Manager

Are you passionate about making a positive impact in your workplace? Do you have exceptional organisational skills, a keen eye for detail and understand the importance of confidentiality? If so, you could be the perfect person to join our team using your skills and experience to make a difference in our communities.

The South Newbury Benefice of St George, St John and St Michael is seeking a highly organised and personable Benefice Office Manager to support the smooth running of our three Anglican churches. This varied role combines administration, premises coordination, communications, and support for worship and ministry.

St George’s and St John’s are medium sized churches on the south side of the market town of Newbury. St John’s Church is near the town centre and has the largest population of the three parishes, St George’s is in the leafier suburb of Wash Common. St Michael’s is a beautiful, small village church in Enborne just outside Newbury. All churches are friendly, inclusive, and open to all. St George’s and St Michael’s churches are rooted in the central Anglican tradition, and St John’s in the Anglo-Catholic. All share a strong commitment to the wider communities they serve, including the schools and care homes in our parishes.  The Benefice has an active ministry team, engaged congregations, and a steady rhythm of worship, social activities, and pastoral ministry.

We are looking for someone who is confident with people, comfortable managing multiple tasks, and able to work independently and proactively with good judgement. You will be the first point of contact for many enquiries, keep our administrative systems running well, and provide a vital hub at the centre of our benefice organisation. The role involves responding flexibly to the different administrative needs of each parish.

The role is mostly based at St George’s where the benefice office is but with one day based at St John’s and will involve work across the benefice, with flexibility around how time is arranged across the week.

It is not a requirement to be a practising Christian for this role but empathy with the values and ethos of the church is essential.

We would consider a job share.  The post is subject to a Basic DBS Disclosure.

Part‑time: 30 hours per week Monday to Friday 9.30-3.30 but with flexibility.
Salary: £14 per hour
Contract: Permanent
