Christingle
St George’s Church will be celebrating Christingle in aid of The Children’s Society on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December.
There are two ways to join in this year.
At home – for all ages not only children
Join a Christingle Zoom workshop on Saturday, 5 December at 11am, making Christingles and exploring their meaning.
Christingle DIY bags of goodies can be collected from the church cloister on the school side of the church at any of the following times:
Saturday, 28 November from 10am – 12noon
Tuesday, 1 December – Thursday, 3 December from 2pm – 3pm
The bags are on a first come, first served basis. All you need to add to the kit is an orange (or apple!). This will give you everything you need to make a Christingle together via Zoom. The Zoom link will be included in the Christingle kits or you can contact St George’s Church office: office@st-george-newbury.org.uk or 01635 41249.
If you are shielding or find getting out difficult, we can deliver a kit to you. Please contact the church office on 01635 41249 by Friday 27 November.
In Church
Bring your Christingle to the All-Age Eucharist on Sunday 6th December at 11am and we will light them together as part of the service. We are hoping to livestream this service. The link will be on this website.
It is essential to book in for this service. In order to adhere to the government’s Covid-19 restrictions, we have to limit the numbers attending the church. It will therefore be necessary to book a free space at this service. Please click the link below or contact the church office at office@stg-stj.org.uk or 01635 41249. Every person attending must reserve a space, including children.
Donating to The Children’s Society. However you choose to join in, please do consider what you can give to support the work of The Children’s Society – use the collection envelope supplied with the Christingle kits or go to the The Children’s Society’s website.

Coronavirus. A different kind of church
Dear friends, we are all facing great challenges, and alongside many other parts of our usual social life, the church has had to respond, and we have had to restrict our social gatherings and limit our services.
What this means is a different kind of church, because we are church in many more ways than meeting on Sunday services… St George’s and St John’s are both working to find ways to nurture and support our communities…
