Blue plaque for former Wash Common Resident

Doris Page who lived in Wash Common from the 1950s until her death in 1991 and worshipped at St George’s is being honoured with a blue plaque for her former home in Essex Street. Doris contracted polio in 1955 and was confined to an iron lung for rest of her life. She campaigned tirelessly for the necessary infrastructure to enable disabled people to lead a viable home life and was awarded an MBE in 1968. All are invited to attend the unveiling on Thursday, 5th May at 1pm outside 39 Essex Street.
